A huge MySQL database is installed on this webserver enebles us to do location checks based on the IP address of a visitor.

You can test the working of this system on this page which displays country, country flag, region, postal code, city and a simple Google map.

Opening the page shows your address, (you can also test other IP addresses) let us know if you have any remarks.

There are some cool possible like for example determing which products should be displayed based on the location of the visitor, or displaying the nearest dealer.

IP Location Tools offers another nice service: fraud detection. using an API request, with the zip code you submit, system compares the location of the IP and the area where zipcode belongs to. Can be very helpful, specially for e-commerce websites.

Works great, shows not the exact location but somewhere in my neighborhood, probably my ISP's closest hub...

I tested it with a vpn from the states and it worked pretty good, but are you not violating the google privacy policy by displaying someone's location based on IP address?
