question:

Relaying Denied

answer:
"Relaying" is when you send email to one mail server, expecting it to pass the email on to its intended recipient who resides on a different mail server (known as "non-local email"). A mail server will produce a "Relaying Denied" error when an unauthorized user attempts to send non-local email.

Mail servers will not relay mail from just anyone. Otherwise, spammers could flood the mail server, making it do their dirty work. You must be authorized to use a mail server for relaying. Unauthorized users will always receive the "Relaying Denied" error.

All e-mail software have the option to setup your username and password for the sending (SMTP) server. Since the username+ password IS THE SAME as for incoming mail, it is usually a simple checkbox.
Only SMTP servers of internet servioce providers (ISP) let you use their SMTP server without authentication: they simply know allready who you are since you are using their connection.

Your ISP wouyld never et you use their SMTP server when you are actually connected using another ISP conenction, for example you are on a mobile computer using guest access soemwhere else.
